The Protective Effect of Virus Capsids on RNA and DNA Virus Genomes in Wastewater

MCIDT affiliates Dr. Krista Wigginton and Dr. Michelle Ammerman along with Trainee affiliate Kate Harrison shed light on virus stability in wastewater. They show that most viral genome copies measured in wastewater are encapsidated and the decay rates of extraviral nucleic acids are increased compared to encapsidated nucleic acid.
